Share Transfer to Spouse

I have a small amount of low value shares that I inherited 25 years ago that I wish to transfer to my wife - current value about £400. Guidance on the least expensive means of doing so would be most app reciated. Many thanks in advance...

Download a stock transfer form from the company registrar, complete and send off with your certificate.

Advice from Wilkins is correct - and it doesn't cost anything except postage. You need a Stock Transfer Form for each company from the company's Registrar.

The three most widely used Registrars are Equiniti, Capita and Computershare.

[1] Google [for example] "Tesco Registrar" to find out which Registrar Tesco use. [Answer: Equiniti]
[2] Google "Equiniti Stock Transfer Form" and download and print blank form.

As you are GIVING your shares to your wife it's even easier to fill in than it looks!

    - Consideration Money: LEAVE BLANK
    - Full name of undertaking: TESCO PLC
    - Full description of security: ORDINARY SHARES OF 5 PENCE [as described on Share Certificate]
    - No of shares - [Words] ONE HUNDRED [Figures] 100
    - In the name of: YOUR FULL NAME AS ON THE CERTIFICATE AND ADDRESS.
    - Signature of transferor: YOUR SIGNATURE
    and
    - Date: THE DATE YOU COMPLETE FORM
    - Full name and full postal addresses...of the person to whom the security is transferred: YOUR WIFE'S FULL NAME AND ADDRESS INCLUDING POSTCODE

On Page 2 Nothing needs to be filled in as you are gifting the shares for no consideration..

Then send the form together with the relevant share certificate to - EQUINITI, ASPECT HOUSE, SPENCER ROAD, LANCING, WEST SUSSEX, BN99 6DA, as shown at the end of the Guidance Notes.

    I think that's about it!

Do the same for each company shareholding.
I always send Share Certificates by recorded delivery [postage +£1.10] as it costs a small fortune to replace them.

    Hope this helps!
