Provisional Licence and Insurance

Hello everybody,
Partner has finally decided he wants to learn how to drive and I've agreed to put him on my insurance. I do have a question though!
He originally applied for his provisional licence 12 years ago and it has since expired. He is due to reapply but I would like to know if this period counts on the "length of time you have held your licence" question, given that it expired and he has had to reapply.
Surprisingly, even though he is male and does not have a full driving licence, he actually brings my insurance down (most likely due to the period of time he has held his licence). That said, I wouldn't want to put down 12 years and later find that reapplying after it has expired means the length of time is reset, as I dread to think how much he would add to my premiums with a brand new provisional!
When I changed my address on my current licence, it shows the date I passed my test on the back...assuming it works in a similar way with a provisional?
Any advice greatly appreciated!

I would wait and see what the new licence says.
Or phone the insurer and ask them. Probably the best option.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
No - only the new Provisional issue date is relevant as it was not continuous. When the full licence is issued, when asked how long you have had a licence, only the a full Licence duration is relevant.0

Thanks for this! It's coming up as the same price even with a new provisional, but I'll probably give them a call beforehand just to check.
His new licence hasn't come either and I know they tend to ask for these things when you start a new policy! Perhaps I will just get insurance for myself and add him on later (probably paying much more for the privilege!).
Thanks for your response.0 -
agree, its how long have you held a FULL license not how long have you had a provisional one. You would need to answer 0 for him.0
