Can I ask for a viewing after sale has been agreed?

Hi,
I'm just in the process of buying my first house so this is all very new to me. The house needs rendering and rewiring straight away. Am I allowed to ask for a viewing on the house now so that I can get quotes for the work? I think there'll be a bit of an overlap between renting and owning and ideally I'd like to get people lined up to do the work so I can get it done as soon as the sale comes through and before I move in. Sorry if this is a silly question!

Of course you can ASK. And it would be pretty churlish of the vendor to refuse a reasonable request.Loonytunes wrote: »Hi,

Yes that's perfectly reasonable and lots of people ask to go back to measure up curtains etc a number of times. Just be reasonable with the sellers - let them know what you want to do and fit in with their timescales and you shouldn't have a problem.
You might also find that the EA has more details on measurements as well. One thing I've found useful is to take photos. But I would ask beforehand as some people might be a bit sensitive about that. If they say no - stick to it.0 -
No reasonable person who truly wants to sell their house would refuse to allow you a second, or even a third viewing. There are lots of genuine reasons why you might want to do that.0

We went back to see the house after we had agreed price etc, and the seller was incredibly helpful. He helped explain how they had their furniture (it was now empty), so we could envisage bed spaces, wardrobes etc. He was even laying on the floor at some stages to demonstate he (6 ft) could fit in there. He was absolutely great to deal with and it was a real help to us, you can only ask.0

Glad you got your second viewing OK, as desthemoaner says, if the seller is genuine about wanting to sell the property then it would be counter-productive to refuse a reasonable request from the buyer. Having just sold my house my buyers came to see it twice and I was very keen for them to come again so that I could demonstrate some of the quirks of the place to them - they couldn't manage it before settlement, but as it happens I was able to give them some guidance after they'd moved in (although if there was anything they were unhappy about it was a bit late to do anything about it then).0

We had to get electricians, builders and woodwork people round for quotes. It's completely reasonable to ask and any reasonable vendor will allow it.0

The couple who bought my last house came back several times after they'd agreed to buy. Not just to check measurements but once with her parents and again with his parents just so they could give their thoughts on the house.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I think we went back at least three times, and then sent contractors round to look at things after the survey. I didnt consider that to be excessive either.
If they cant be bothered to accommodate my pre-purchase reassurance I cant be bothered to given them hundreds of thousands of pounds.

In our current house we went back twice, first just s and second time took my parents as we had mentioned to the lady we bought from that we may drive by to show them as they were coming to stay with us (it is a quiet close and they would have noticed us), she said to bring them for a proper look.
Our previous house we had a couple of fencing companies go so they could quote us for a new fence and get it booked in for the week we moved in (wire builders fence and a dog don't really go together!)0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies, they're really helpful. Can't wait to get in and get going now!0
