    Thanks for the update.

I suggest this thread should be linked wenever we get a poster looking to buy a let property.....
  • I had a similar issue with a property. It went on for a long time, so I continued looking at houses. Eventually found somewhere else, and withdrew my original offer. I believe the tenant is still in place at the original property!

Pfft. I am a tenant on HA. I pay rent on time regardless, keep the home in good condition blah blah. My LL has told me he may want to sell the place. I am saving as hard as I can in case I can find a private LL to take me but LL's who will do so in my area are very very rare.

I have been to Housing Need in the council and been told that once I have a S21 notice, they will allow me to start a homeless persons application. (its obviously sell rental time on this street, I have a neighbour in the same position but further along with a baillifs notice for mid september, she's been told its BB for her and her children). Then I will be placed in B&B (20 miles away), then a one bed flat (with two kids) until I can find a house to live in whether its social housing or private rental.

I have one 18 year old with ASD, another with suspected ASD (been waiting since October for an assessment).

So its not a pleasure trip. If more LL's took HA recipients (investigating whether they were good tenants from a more personal assessment process rather than simply credit checks and one reference from a LL who maybe would say anything to get rid of a bad tenant).., none of us would be in this position. I'd do a lot to ensure I had a chance of a place to go onto. When I was looking before I literally spent hours a day EVERY day trawling ads, LAs for two and a half months til I found this place. That it took so long wasn't due to a lack of effort. Now its even worse (more tenants than properties here). This is my nightmare too, not just a buyer's nightmare.

It's a free world out there, and LL's can rent their properties to whomever they choose, and this should surely continue to be the case.

    The solution has to be

1 - Increase the stock of social housing
2 - Reduce the number of individuals who need assistance in order to put a roof over their heads.

Oh yeah, I in no way blamed the tenant for this. To be honest if anything the LL should have made sure he had a vacant property prior to trying to sell it, rather than having his cake and eating it. I also blame the lack of social housing, and the tightened social budgets. But certainly not the people who really have no choice but to stay.
  • this is why you should stick hot pins in your eyes before renting to the workshy or benefit recipients as they like to be called
