CAR INSURANCE Auto Renew problem

My policy was due to renew at 12.00 midnight today on Autorenew but I'd already been contacted by my current insurer to say my card had expired. Because of this, I didn't think I would have to cancel policy with them. I have shopped around and managed to save a few pound with the Cooperative - my renewal with AXA £311, Co-op £251. Today I received a standard email saying my AXA policy has renewed and then a text thanking me for renewing! I have emailed them to explain what has happened and asked them to cancel my policy. Should I have a problem?

There should be no problem cancelling though there may be a cost.
They will be entitled to the cost of covering you till cancellation and there may be cancellation charges too.
Check the policy wording.
Also check you have cancelled in line with their ts and cs. Previously they insisted on cancelling by phone. And as the policy has started they may insist on you returning the certificate before the cancellation is effective0 -
Chances are, if you've already taken the policy out with Co-Op and send them [AXA] proof that you've done so they'll likely backdate the cancellation for you. I'm not saying this is something they should or have to do, however insurance companies are very keen to avoid dual-insurance. You were lucky this recently happened to me on two van insurances received an email for auto renew and date for money to be taken out of bank I rang them and made sure it was cancelled They took the money out regardless and then deducted two admin charges of £50 something even though I had cancelled before the money was even gone from my account Usual stock reply from them We can only refund minus the admin costs even though they had no right to take the money0
