Landlord Insurance - Confused.com Warning

Hi All,
Newbie to this forum.
I was shopping around for a cheap Landlords building insurance for a 2 bed flat I rent out.
I decided to look at confused.com and filled in the questionaire for the best possibly search results. It came back with sorry we have not found any suitable companies, however our agent from "Your Insurance" will call you shortly to discuss.
I smelt a big rat here, I looked at "Your Insurance" and noticed it was owned by "Towergate Insurance".
I then researched further to see if their was any associations or tie ups. Low and behold I found on the Insurance Age Portal.
"Towergate Insurance has announced that it is to become the SOLE provider of business insurance for price comparison site Confused.com "
So to a novice like me thinking I will get a few quotes from confused.com is in fact a backdoor straight to "Towergate Insurance" and when that call comes we would NOT think its a business to business tie up.
I then did gocompare.com and again the same - they have an affillation with "Simply Business" for all Landlord and buisness insurance.
I just wanted everyone to know that you may not be getting a choice of comparisons. So tread carefully.
Thx

Towergate and Simply Business are both brokers, Towergate is slightly more complex because they have MGAs with a number of underwriters and so whilst never a true insurer they are in practice somewhere between the two.
All of the aggregators, at least last time I checked, use a single broker for any business insurance but expose their full panel on the results page in an aggregator type fashion.
You are still getting a comparison but of only one brokers panel. At the same time for personal lines where things like Car are truly aggregated you still only see the insurers and brokers that that aggregator has on their books and not the whole market (eg Direct Line wont legitimately appear on any)0 -
Are there any true comparison sites that don't have links to brokers? Like a sort of Which? of the insurance world.
Like going to a genuine Independant Financial Adviser rather than the Barclays rep. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Why do you think a broker is different to an IFA? There are plenty that are whole of market and advisory.
Inevitably with a web form all sales will be non-advisory but if no results come back then they will advise a call where an advisory service can kick in0 -
