Temp car insurance & taxing car

Hi All,
Am putting the car up for sale - plenty of MOT but has been on SORN since Feb.

Wanted to get it temporary insured to cover me to get it cleaned, checked over and was wondering whether I could use that insurance to tax the car as well?

Not wanting to be driving without tax and thought it might sell better as MOT'd and taxed?

Anyone know? TIA:)

Unless the policy excludes buying tax then there wont be a problem. Unless you get some shirty person at the post office that say you need x amouint of days or a yearly policy.

Ask for the manager and tell them you want the tax your policy is valid so hand it over call the police because your setting up camp until they do hand it over.

But dont forget when the insurance expires you need to return the tax to SORN it.

Since December 2013, you're no longer required to have insurance to tax a vehicle. So you don't need insurance to tax, but you'll need both to take it on the road of course.

EDIT - Sorry let me make that clearer, you will still need insurance once you have taxed the vehicle (regardless of whether you are using it or not) so you if you do tax it, you'll need to then insure it.

Sorry think I've missed the point! I can just tax it, as is, with MOT and V5 document - no need for a insurance certificate?

So it can sit in my drive, as now, but taxed?

Post 3 is correct; we have several ex-fleet vehicles on temp policies standing on the front of the office (or did before I disappeared on holiday), all of which have new 12 months tax, and I wasn't asked to show insurance.

Of course, they still need to be insured, as per the legislation currently in place.

That's true. I've just renewed road tax online and the Checking Insurance Database stage has been omitted.
I didn't know they had done that - how very strange. Why do they check for MOT but not insurance?

They check all cars regularly to make sure they are insured

So no need to check when you buy tax - prior to continuous insurance checks you could just cancel the policy after buying the tax.

I guess they have 2 fields on their computer system. is it taxed, Is it insured if either are no then is it SORN.

Tax a vehicle with no insurance and they get to make more money by sending you a £60 fine.

    Maybe i am too cynical?
