So £10,000 for a holiday to Dominican Republic --- Where do these companies drag they figures from ?

Just looked on Thomas Cook website and 2 weeks in JUNE comes to £3940 (£1970 each)

Even going on 21st December (so for Xmas & New Year - of which you will not be allowed to go during these dates) comes to £6317

Upgrade both room and flights and book through an "up market" travel agent...

Of course if you don't want to enter competition where you feel the prize value has been over stated that is totally up to you.

Went there October 2011. I highly recommend this hotel!
Facilities excellent but food Ok for me but not for a foodie.
When I went it included US$2,500 for spends. You had to spend it on spa facilities, the golf, excursions, room upgrades, proper champagne etc.
Included was $25 a day credit for slots at the casino. If you didn't use it that day you lost it. I went to slots every night with a prepaid $25 card and put in machine. You couldn't collect as cash but you could the winnings. I calculated that we shoud be able to turn each $25 credit into $20 cash. At the end of 14 nights we had $280 cash. Amazingly, some people didn't use their credit as they thought it was some sort of con. Some of the slots cost 01cent a go whilst others could go up to $25 a go, and probably more. I upgraded to a Caribbean suite which I was very pleased with. (double Jacuzzi in the LOUNG area) and the shower room was bigger than my bedroom (it was a double shower etc)
I used to work for Thomas Cook and price was £4k but my staff discount took it down to £1k for two adults.
There are bigger and better rooms.
Does seem overpriced unless they are flying you out in Club World and putting you in the Presidential suite.


It maybe worth boycotting this competition :rotfl:

Arrr, I wondered why it stated on the TC website that it included upto $3600 spends ........... I wondered what you would spend it on when it was an AI resort.

Hmm, something to look at if I don't win - I like these exclusive kind of resorts... and my winnings over the year should quite easily pay for it

my wife and I both had haircuts with the credit and also a facial.
Facials took about an hour and cost about $150! Probably a bit wasted in me :rotfl:
They ask you afterwards at reception how good it was, and I said OK. Apparently if you say you were disappointed you get another one for free


They had a quad car trip for 90 mins which cost as well. Went on that FOUR times to burn up the credit. Wife was five months pregnant so she didn't go on them for some reason.


You tend to end up with $20 left over which you can't spend, and disappointingly you can't give away as a tip.
I had a very good AI holiday in Barbados last November but must confess Hard Rock was one of the few hotels I have been to where I thought I would like to go back to
