Fees for dividend reissue

My father has received a letter from a company called Prosearch regarding an unclaimed entitlement from Santander, which has arose from a transfer of Alliance and Leicester shares he had when it was taken over.

We have contacted Santander directly, rather than pay comission to Prosearch.

My father has never received any of the dividend cheques from Santander, yet they are trying to charge £165 in fees to reissue £1180 of dividends (a number of cheques since 2008).

I realise he probably should have noticed that he hadnt received these, but regardless, is there any way of avoiding these fees?

Probably not as it will be the standard admin fee, why did he not receive the cheques ? I seem to remember that it was a seamless transition from A&L to San.

I have no idea why he didnt receive the cheques but have no doubt that if he had received them they would have been banked straight away.
