Homemade cloches polythene
I made some homemade hooped cloches with blue water pipe, fleece and jumbo clips. All fine for winter and the veg has come up lovely. But now it's warmed up do I need to put on aerated polythene or normal polythene to give the greenhouse effect?

I didn't even know there was perforated polythene until I read this.
Personally, while the holey variety looks attractive, I would probably just figure out a way to adjust the ends to let more air in, as appropriate. After all, many polytunnels just have doors at each end to do the same job.
I'm sure more insects would get in too, though maybe some of the 'wrong' ones, which would be too big to go through holey plastic.
I might also experiment with making my own holey poly, by using an old soldering iron. I bet it would be stronger and cheaper.0 -

Thank you for the replies. I'll just get some normal polythene instead. We've only got winter lettuce, kale, garlic and lettuce at the moment so fairly hardy the fleece has worked well after reading how to make cloches on hereDiary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:
