the hotel cancelled my booking

hello
i recently booked a holiday in Scarborough via Expedia. i received a automated message phone call today telling me that my booking had been cancelled due to a pricing error on the Expedia web site.
im not sure if its the same principle but if a supermarket or store price there items incorrectly they have to sell the item for the price stated, is this the same for my holiday ? do i have to accept the cancellation or am i entitled to my holiday for the price i paid as its not my fault they made a mistake with the price ?
any information is greatly appreciated

thanks
sharl

I think it is the same principle, but unfortunately that you have that principle wrong.

If an item is priced incorrectly then there is no obligation on the store/company to have to sell that item at the incorrect price, at least up until a binding contract is formed -you'd have to check to see what that point is with Expedia.

Out of interest, how long ago did you make the booking and was the price obviously wrong ?

You could always contact Expedia and ask for some sort of goodwill gesture inthe circumstances - perhaps a discount off another hotel ?

Before that point, Expedia can cancel your booking providing they leave you in the same situation as you were before the booking happeed - i.e. they refund any deposit you've made.

    thank you for your reply
i am currently on the phone with Expedia trying to resolve the problem. i booked the holiday a week ago the price a paid was cheap but not obviously to cheap of i would have queried it before booking. its not Expedia that cancelled my booking the actual hotel cancelled Expedia had no knowledge of the call. also i paid in full they didn't ask for a deposit. Expedia are being very helpful with the matter hopefully they can sort it out for me
    thanks

Unless its a goodwill gesture you have no legal rights I'm afraid.

Which hotel was it please, and how much was it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
