We have often used Omega due to the keen pricing on Air China flights but they can be a struggle to deal with if you want your ticket sent in the mail. Best to visit their agency (London, Birmingham, Manchester & Edinburgh).

If anyone is thinking of visiting Beijing and want to stay in a luxury courtyard environment walking distance from Forbidden City etc, and not even expensive: www.bb-china.com there are some visitor testimonials on the website.

take advantage of a cheap flight to thailand and then arrange a flight there into china (we got from chiang mai to kunming for about £70). china is a fabulous place, quite hard work though. we were mostly in yunnan and i would recommend dali, lijiang, yang shuo as all these are quite tourist friendly. i know it sounds obvious but the place is huge so you need days of travelling time unless you take internal flights, or just stick to one or two provinces. i wouldnt take an organised trip cos you will pay a lot for that, but you need to be a little bit bit brave and you need a lonely planet (unless you lose it in nanning like i did and then it really gets interesting).

We are leaving tomorrow afternoon for China via Hong Kong. I booked the flights through a travel agent because I couldn't find anything on the internet cheaper.

I tried Trailfinders for trips to Xian to see the terracotta army and a cruise down the Yangtze river but after visiting https://www.tripadvisor.com I booked the trips and flights I wanted for considerably less with https://www.chinaodysseytours.com. The service and information they have provided so far has been great.

I also used Tripadvisor to chose our hotel ( Holiday Inn Central Plaza) based on the reviews given by others who have already been there. The hotels own website was the cheapest I could get.

Oooh you've got me going now. I was thinking of Hong Kong, but now I'm wondering if I should head for the Chinese Motherlode instead, at maybe not actually much more money. How do you think the costs and enjoyability for around 7-9 days compare? I can't get longer off work.

    Opinions please?

Direct flights to Hong Kong/China from London are available with BA, Cathay Pacific, Virgin and now Oasis. Try Sagitta Travel in Chinatown - their fares are similar or sometimes even cheaper than internet offers. Good for last minute cheap flights when all the other usual suspects only have full fare deals left! ;)
  • It's unwise to travel in china during the National Day Holiday (Oct.1-Oct.7),
May Day Holiday(May 1-May 7) as well as the Spring Holidy(Jan. 1-Jan.7 in Chinese Lunar Calendar),which are peak travelling season.During the these 3periods, the ticket price, accommodation price hike. In addition, It's very crowdy and packed in the scenic spots.
