Hi all,Hope someone can help, ive already posted this on careers board, ive wanted to change my career from 28years in retail (been up n down the management ladder and im bored) to either book keeping/accountant or bank work, im currently doing 3 college courses which are IT , MATHS & BOOK KEEPING, My question is Ive just finished a debt management plan ( ) as the dmp will be on my credit record would this prevent me from doing higher courses in bk/acc or evan prevent me from working in Banking or accounting? xxx

I am in the public sector so can't answer your question regarding the banking & accounting professions.
Being on a DMP didn't cause me problems. I had to inform management that I was in financial hardship which was embarrassing as it had to be repeated a few times. Only thing that happened to me was that I lost the burden of having to look after some financial aspects of my job. I was promoted and gained SC clearance whilst on the DMP with Payplan.
Good luck with your studies and career change.Proud to have dealt with my debts, became debt free on 03/11/2011. Repaid £54,723.41 LBM May 2006.

Hello there,
Some banking jobs are likely to require a clean credit history, you may find that reduced/late payments and defaults prohibit you. Some jobs may not allow formal insolvencies such as Bankruptcies and Individual Voluntary Arrangements - a DMP is not 'insolvency'.
Although I cannot give you a definitive answer what I can say is that I come across very few situations where being in debt has caused any real difficulties with the callers I have spoken to. Given the nature of the work you are looking to move into I would suggest undertaking as much research about prospective employers as you can.
Best wishes,

i work in finance and DMPs and any insolvency are a big no no where i work as we have access to sensitive data including card numbers etc
it depends what area of accountancy you progress into a which firm within that area you are looking to work within they all have their own different rules on what is acceptable or not
you can do the courses but it doesnt mean that people will or will not hire youThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -
Thank you all for your comments, i will definately research more into this, some of the courses i was planning to do require a clean credit record, ill carry on with the courses im already on, then see what happens from therexx0
