Major thanks to this site, otherwise would have just carried on paying bills without looking to get a better deal.
Was paying £36 a month for basic line rental and 4mb broadband.
Just got off the phone with Virgin Media, am now paying £35 a month for;
XL TV Package
Unlimited calls
4mb Broadband.
Was going to try and get a broadband upgrade but they were saying that 4mb was getting increased to 8mb soon so I wasn't too fussed, can still download a 700mb file in 25 mins currently so I'm happy.
In case anyone was wondering, I simply phoned up the retentions department and told them I was approached by Sky who offered me
Smallish TV package
Evening and weekend calls
16mb Broadband, did actually check with a few other people and considering how far away from the exchange I am, I would have been getting 4mb anyway so no change.
They originally just offered to upgrade the phone to free evening and weekend calls for £35 a month, told them I was drawn to Sky's offer because of the television, so they threw their largest package for free into the deal.
Eventually got through to the sales people and the guy seemed to be having a good day and offered to upgrade me to free unlimited calls for nothing, sweeter deal, so I took it.
I kept a really conversational tone with them throughout the entire call and didn't once mention I would leave, simply that I liked Sky's offer compared to what I was currently getting.
This is guaranteed for minimum 12 months and anything upto 10 years, but planning on phone to get a better deal in 12 months time.
So thanks again Martin Lewis and all you people out there for saving me money!
