Deductions For Using Private Car

I've started doing a few hours of tutoring every week, to get a bit extra cash to pay to the mortgage. I'm using my own car to get to different houses, probably a total of about 60 miles or so. I'm going to phone HMRC today and register for Self Assessment again (I've been registered in the past but not for a few years).

When it comes to dealing with the Self-Assessment stuff, can I deduct any expenses (for mileage, depreciation etc.) from my self-employed profits due to using my own car?

Many thanks.

the easiest method for the self employed is to claim mileage at the HMRC approved rates of 45 ppm for the first 10,000 miles and then 25 ppm thereafter.

This avoids having to fiddle around with private use calculations and depreciation which given your expected mileage just would not be worth the effort
