Buyer wants me to send item to unconfimed address

Hi,
I've just sold a phone on Ebay last night & I stated on my listing that I would only post to a Paypal confirmed address. However, the buyer has paid & wants it sending to an unconfirmed address.
He has 74 feedback, 100% but I don't want to end up losing £150. He says he needs the item posting out today & if I'm not willing to send to the address that he's provided, he wants his money refunded so that he can bid on another one.
Surely he's not allowed to do this? Why should I have to pay ebay fees & relist the auction just because he didn't read the listing properly? Grrrrr!

You don't. If he wants it, ask him to pick it up and bring cash with him or get him to do a bank transfer to you. You have to look after number one.
It's him who's broken your rules after all.0 -
Thanks geezer.
I didn't think about a bank transfer. I'm not really a fan of giving out my bank details to complete strangers though. Is it completely safe?
I know that if I refund him he's just going to buy elsewhere though. That's what's peed me off.0 -
Ask for a cheque, or cash sent by Special Delivery.0

Bank transfer. Just give him your sort code and bank account number and the account name. It's completely safe.
If the buyer backs out of the deal, can't you give it to the second highest bidder rather than re-listing?
You don't want to lose £150 so don't send it to an unconfirmed address otherwsie you will have no protection with PayPal.0 -
OP, you have been very sensible, how many people have been on here recently, bleating about being ripped off by paypal when they have sent to unconfirmed addresses?
why is he so desperate for you to send it today?
you can refund him and it automatically refunds your paypal fee, you can then do a npb on him (after 7 days) as he went against your stated payment, you then get your fees back.
Is there a particular reason he has given for not having a confirmed address after a lot of transactions (going on feedback)?"There is a light that never goes out"0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
windswept - I don't know why he's so desperate for the phone to be posted today. He says that he has a confirmed address but that it's registered at his parents' house as that's where he was living when he opened the Paypal account. However, he doesn't want it sending there for whatever reason! He says I'm the first person that's complained about his address not being confirmed :rolleyes:0 -
wow cant believe it!!!0

Then point out to him that you are doing him a favour by showing him that he needs to update his admin - and it's not a complaint, it's a helpful observation . If he's the real user he'd know and appreciate this. Personally I don't like the sound of it... a rush sending, a high value item and an unconfirmed address is a variable or two too far for my tastes.0 -
...of a bogus buyer. If you sent the phone to the unconfirmed address, it is highly likely that you will find the "chargeback" facility used to return the Paypal payment.
Have you reviewed the impressive feedback that your buyer has - how quickly was it accrued? Has the buyer been a member of eBay for many years? or has their feeback been from a block of small buys from the same circle of accounts?
Personally, for the few high value items I sell off through eBay, I include some text reserving the right to take payment by electronic transfer or cheque if the winner is a newbie or low feedback buyer. I use a redundant online bank account I've retained for just this purpose.
Mind you, I have an eight year history on eBay, buying and selling on a personal level under my own name. I've now got over 270 positive feedback with 100% record. As I say in my blurb, I know I am an honest joe but unfortunately there are a lot of toe-rags out there. All the honest newbies and low feedback users I've dealt with in this way have been happy to do so. I get what I want -their payment, they get the goods and a positive feedback to start them on their way.

But when I got to be twenty one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”

OP, if the buyer doesn't provide you with a genuine reason of why he wants it sent to an unconfirmed address then tell them in no uncertain terms that you wont go along with it, after all they have not read your listing properly.
refund the paypal payment, if they want it sent out quick, give them your sort code and account number and account holding name and they can walk into any branch of your bank and deposit straight into your account, thats completely safe, he cant do anything other than pay you with just those details.
if they dont agree you can start an Item Not Paid Dispute after 7 days, you can get your final value fee's back and if you relist the item and it sells the fee's for listing the second time around will be refunded too.0
