Tell me what car to buy as I'm totally confused!

Her argument was that if we wrecked the car the cost to replace would be higher as they would have to replace the towbar & parking sensors. I asked if we could sign something to say we would be happy to have a replacement without these extras but apparently then I would be wilfully under-insuring the car.
Ironically, the car was previously a motability car and is fitted with a left foot accelerator that is hidden away but this modification didn't bother her as "we wouldn't be using it"...I asked if we promised not to use the towbar and parking sensors as well could she adjust the quote but apparently not because "they'd still be on the car"...well so would the extra accelerator presumably?!?!?
Re the business use, she helpfully then doubled the insurance cost on our current car! Presumably, selling chocolate in the run up to Easter & Christmas means that I am risking my life going into areas I would otherwise not enter in my day to day life, as this was her reason for the increased cost.0 -
Insurance companies can and do charge whatever they want to, subject to seemingly random rules. They also do not ever reward loyalty.
I would look at a comparison site, and then call up the companies that you trust with the best quotes to find one that actually wants to insure you. If they treat front parking sensors (a safety feature!) the same way as lowering the suspension and adding slick tyres, or view the occasional business use the same as doing pizza delivery rounds on a Ducati, then they don't want your business.

A lot of mentioning on here about estates, how about a small MPV like a Ford C-Max?
Never heard any horror stories about them and you should be able to get a 2009/2010 1.6 petrol model within your budget. Similar size to the Scenic you had but thankfully not French!
If you are keen on estates though have a look at the Octavia estate. Probably less available in your budget because of better resale values and fewer petrol models. The C-Max would be my best bet.0 -
Have looked at C-Maxs and Octavias...C-Maxs seemed to be expensive and not very easy to add roof bars to, and Octavias were great on boot space & roof bar-ability but the leg room in the back wasn't great (have two boys who get bigger every day!)
Have phoned another insurance company who seemed to be more sensible just worried still that it's because they haven't read the form properly! I mean £3,000!! We're 41..about the only thing going for our age is reasonable priced car insurance
