Statements needed for new employer...?

Okay, wasn't really sure where to put this so board mods, if you feel it'd be more appropriately situated elsewhere, feel free to move it over.
On to the issue - I have a conditional job offer from a major company, and naturally they do a lot of background checks (hence conditional offer) which is understandable. What they've asked for is bank statements over an 8 month period. Now, this overlaps over 2 banks during this time, and the latter of the two is my current bank. Having checked online, they're saying the statements aren't available to view online anymore and I'll have to order copy statements at a charge of £5 per month (a fiver for one sheet of paper!!!)
What I'm asking is - is there a cheaper way to fulfil what they want (that is, evidence of incoming funds over this period)?

No.
make sure they have the True & certified stamp on, and they are signed as well by a member of bank staff, most banks charge £5 per statement month.
Perhaps get paper statements and keep them for the future?0 -
Not having come across this before, I'm curious - why would a potential employer have a need for bank statements, particularly for such an odd number of months? What business is it of theirs what you spend your money on?0

Any job where there could be a worry about corruption or blackmail might want this. Police, for example would want to know if an applicant was in financial trouble, as they don't want people who are desperate for money working on the front line.0 -
Ah, makes sense now - thanks.0

Yeah it's more about money incoming as the role would be open to fraud, bribery etc.
Bum, seems there's no way around it
ETA - oh, and the odd no of months is from where there's a gap in my employment history. On the up

Surprising update - the banks involved printed the statements needed for free!
And validated them as true to be submitted.
