Follow up from Job Applications

I had appointment today at my Job Centre and my advisor told me that I need to start following up from Job Applications now but I forgot to ask him this but just wondering anyone else know?

How long do you have to give it before you follow it up once you applied for the position and you haven't heard anything. am I thinking 7 days? or is that wrong? :D

    Let me think

Why haven't you been chasing up jobs you have applied for?

You have been on the WP yes so been out of work 3 years and you don't do this? *Sigh*

And the booklet you fill in asks when you will follow up or when you heard back etc, doesn't it?

No, it doesn't state in my JSA agreement when to follow up, it just states like contact employers, hand CVS in shops ete, go on Job sites twice a day, look in newspapers, send Spec letters out, keep in contact with Job agencies and ask family/friends.

So the booklet you fill in with your jobs you have applied for says nothing at all and you have not thought in 3 years to follow up a job application?

Are you really telling us that?

    The booklets say

WHAT I WILL DO NEXT - your reply is a date when you will have followed the job up by

Or the sheets I have says

    DATE OF FOLLOW UP/OUTCOME

I put in dates I will have contacted the employer by

  • look at the closing date of the advert you responded to and then call about 2 days after that, ask if they've received your application and when they think they'll be interviewing (unless it's on the job advert itself, then ask when they are sending out the letters for interview).
with regards to on spec CV stuff give the recipient about a week to look at it and then call them and ask if they've had a chance to look at your CV and what did they think about it.

The Universal Jobmatcher thingy didn't have a follow up section as I recall and no one fills that stupid book in anymore it's TMLHW.
Good luck with your hunt OP.
just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
    DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son

Maybe I need to refresh your mind, remember I stated that I don't fill in them booklets any more.

I write my Job Seeking down on Microsoft Office Word and print them out at Library since I don't have a Printer here at my flat.

What about jobs with no close date like agency adverts or just ones with no date?

Spec letters can not really be chased as you aren't applying for a job just writing on spec

The UJM have a section called Activity History so you if you are keeping all your jobs on it write in there who you have chased up

Also there are lots of people who use the booklets/sheets still
