Hi
Looking to be visiting London around 13th April for 5 nights, there will be 2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 8, we have a merlin pass so hoping to put it to good use, just need some help with transport though, what the best/cheapest way of getting from Woking to the London eye and Olympic park and any other attractions

Don't Woking trains terminate at Waterloo? That's just a couple of minutes walk away from the Eye.

From there the Jubilee line will take you down to Stratford and the Olympic park.

Yep - about 5 minutes walk from Waterloo main to London Eye.

South East Train from Woking to Waterloo - very frequent and very quick.

Edited to add: why stay for 5 nights when you are only 30 minutes down the line from the capital?

I do that line when I commute into town... you could easily do loads on day trips with just a couple of nights staying over if you were catching a show or wanted to see London at night.
    :hello:
  • Going to be doing Legoland, Thorpe Park and Chessington, first so thought we may as well just stay in 1 place, so is it best getting a train to waterloo, through South East trains, shell we book in advance to get the best price

It's actually South West Trains you need (but you could buy tickets from any train operator site).

For that route there will be no price advantage in booking ahead.

Suggest you also get a Family & Friends railcard (there are discount codes around for this I think) to get 1/3 off - it would probably pay for itself after a couple of days travel.

For Thorpe Park, the nearest station is Staines, which is reached from Woking in 1 hour by changing at Weybridge, you need a bus from there. For Chessington, the station is Chessington South. Takes 1 hour from Woking including a 20 minute changeover at Clapham Junction, but only a 10 minute walk from the station when you arrive.

I can't think of anywhere you could stay in London area where you wouldn't spend more on accommodation than you would on train fares or get to any of these places any quicker than coming by train from Woking!

    Especially with a F & F railcard.

Yes there is currently a £10 off discount code.
That's a third off the usual price of £30.

    Read about it here:

Probably better to drive to the parks, Legoland, Thorpe and Chessington all very handy from Woking.

For London the train is best, return Woking to Waterloo and all bus and tube in London for £29.80, assuming 2 Ads with the 2 kids, with a railcard or £35.00 using a super off peak travelcard and the "groupsave offer", basically 3 or 4 travel for the price of 2 at weekends and after 10, i think, during the week.

The Merlin Pass is great for London, the Eye, Aquarium, Madam Ts, maybe the dungeons, maybe not with an 8 year old, then another go on the Eye after dark, train home.

It's London Marathon day on the 13th so a lot of roads will be closed and some places harder to get to. Or just join in with the crowds and cheer the runners on of course!
