fitting a terminal telephone socket

Is it normal for there to be no screws in the wire terminals !!?

There is just little slots and nothing to fasten each wire with.....assume I have a dud ?

Thats normal for phone sockets, the wires just slot in

Well the one that's coming out has the screws to tighten the wires in !

but i dont understand if i should strip the wire etc ?

You need a 'punch down' tool. You don't strip the wire, the connectors slice through the insulation when the wire is pushed down.

Some people use screwdrivers to push the wire down. They tend to be the people we have to go out to and replace the sockets for. You can get cheap punch down tools, probably from the same shop you got the socket from. Do NOT strip the wire, if you leave bare wire it can short it out if it connects with another wire.

Whenever I've bought phone sockets and networks sockets, they've come with the tool - just a big of plastic, with a notch in one end. Just push the wire in with that and the socket will strip and grip the wire.
