Tax p87 reclaim mileage help

Hello don't know if anyone can advise, I am a student nurse and as such our bursary it taxed or at least listed against our tax allowance. I have just been on placement and had to reclaim my mileage from the nhs bursary authority the rate paid is .23 p per mile which obv does not cover wear and tear to my car. I claimed 315.00 back can you let me know if the .45p rule on the p87 tax form would apply to me.

Do you actually pay tax? If not then there is nothing to claim the mileage against.

Sounds like the public transport rate - it would depend on what your T&C's are within the trust and whether or not they are operating the grey fleet policy.

Under this policy, unless you have registered your car with the Fleet manager you will not be able to claim mileage for the use of your car - instead you will be paid public transport rate.

To register your car, look on the intranet or speak to your manager - you will need your tax, insurance and service records to prove that your car is legal and you are able to drive it. You should then be able to claim the higher rate which will cover your transport costs
