Unlocking - provider tells me 7 days?

I have just phoned my provider to unlock an out of contact phone so i can use it abroad with another SIM, then continue with my rolling contract back in UK. Apart from a charge of £15 they says it takes 7 days cos it has to go via HTC!
Cant see why it should take 7 days to do - are they just fobbing me off so i dont want to wait that long? I know its prob cheaper elsewhere. Surely it shouldnt take 7 days?! I can wait that long so it doesnt really matter.

But why 7 days?!

I'd think they send batchs of unlock requests to HTC once a week. HTC then have to generate the codes and send them back to your network, which will take more time...

A weeks not bad, Apple take up to 30 days.

Buy a code off eBay, it'll probably be both quicker and cheaper.
