Right ok so you weren't sacked for being late or hitting the boss etc so be up front.the_darkknight wrote: »Yes I left my last job for the one I got sacked in. Good point about the reason for leaving!
I was let go at the end of my probation period. Reasons were very vague along the lines of "not the right fit for the company". They called me into the office, sacked me and asked me to leave the building. Charming when you have worked your backside off for the past 5-6 months, including doing unpaid over time and anti social hours for minimum wage!
Can you find out what format a reference would be in? Some just say Joe Blogg was here from Sept to Dec 2013 and was a XXXX and left due to unsatisfactory probation etc
This is not a bad thing these days since they can let you go in 24 months for the same reason. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
All I can say, really, is that it may be awkward if a reference is needed. But do NOT lie to prospective new employers - if you get accepted for a job and they subsequently discover the truth it could make things very difficult for you. And they may like you more for your honesty in the long term if you explain how vague the reasons were, etc... (assuming that's the truth)
I really hope that all turns out well and you find a job that suits you and which you enjoy. x0 -
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
No only when they get notification from the HMRC and that wont be as soon as the person starts. And besides the payroll team wouldn't even know what happened at the recruitment process.Yes, but new employer could still see on next paysip "tax to date £****." couldn't they? We’ve had to remove your signature. I know what you're saying, but what if Op is starting at a smaaler place where like where I am, owner is manager, personnel, and payroll amongst other things?0

then that's a chance they take and the HMRC will not tell the employer where they once workedI know what you're saying, but what if Op is starting at a smaaler place where like where I am, owner is manager, personnel, and payroll amongst other things? We’ve had to remove your signature. No wouldn't make up the travelling, you will need to be clear if you left of your accord or were 'sacked' - only say that because I've known people say they were 'sacked' then reference has come back of they resigned/left...!
Just got another job in all of 24 hours after jacking in job Wednesday using CV couple of months out of date (personally wouldn't possibly start listing jobs lasting mere days/week on CV! good reason to leave or not) left that to the interview when really pressed as I think they can tell real unemployed a mile off and still made an offer though I'm not fussy what I do for work anymore ; ) but a CV is selling yourself - think how it looks to you?
If it worries I rate building up some time in 'lesser' job then move on/back to what you want to do - is that not an option?0 -
Get a friend to ring your last employer and ask for a reference. You never know what theu might say.0

Can you not just say 'Contract not renewed after probationary period'?(AKA HRH_MUngo)
