Do you have to put all jobs you had on a CV? especially if sacked? help!

A little creative thinking required here. Say you were in a job for a relatively short period of time (5-6 months) and you were sacked. What is worse:
Putting the job down on the CV, having to explain why you left/got sacked and getting a bog standard (so and so worked from blah blah to blah blah) reference from them - if they give you one at all.
OR
Leaving the job off the CV entirely and having a large gap. Maybe making something up, saying you went travelling.
I don't know what looks worse?

was it your last job? If so I would be honest, if it wasn't then put it in and leave out reasons of leaving until askedDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

If the job was more than 5 years ago and not the last or one but last role Id leave it off and say you did up the house took some time out and went on holidayWe’ve had to remove your signature. Yes it was my last last role.
I know they are both rubbish scenarios but I don't know which one looks worse! I'm young still, early/mid 20's, which is how I could....er....get creative and make something up about going travelling?0 -
Would your next employer not know you've been working by your tax paid to date?0

Why not put them on, at least your being honest, no need to put the reason why you left employment. If they wanted to know why you left that job they will ask you or it will be asked on the application form.
At end of the day if you want to go with the "traveling" option make sure it wont come back on you.0 -

Oh if it was the last job a bit tricky.
What was the reason for leaving the one before? Was it to go to thisjob? Dilemma here is if someone asks them for a ref they will say reasonfor leaving 'going to a new role'.
The company then would say 'what new job, you said you went travelling'

That's what I thought too. In my opinion honesty is always the best policy and that definitely goes for the job centre.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

You don't have to hand in a P45 as you could send this to the tax office yourself.Torry_Quine wrote: »That's what I thought too. Yes I left my last job for the one I got sacked in. Good point about the reason for leaving!
I was let go at the end of my probation period. Reasons were very vague along the lines of "not the right fit for the company". They called me into the office, sacked me and asked me to leave the building. Charming when you have worked your backside off for the past 5-6 months, including doing unpaid over time and anti social hours for minimum wage!0 -
Morally, of course you should be honest about it. From a practical viewpoint (ie: you want a job!) then things are a bit different. Not sure what I'd do, but as others have said, your story about the gap needs to be watertight and unprovable either way. I suppose worst that can happen is you don't get the job which leaves you no worse of!0
