dehumidifier how long to leave it on?

My landlord finally brought round a dehumidifier yesterday. It looks like its from the 70s but after having it on all night for the 1st time since we've moved in theres no condensation on the door or windows so must be working.
But how long should i keep it on for? Should it be on 24/7 the 1st few weeks so the walls can dry out or should i just put it on every night? Once the walls have dried out do i still put it on every night to maintain it? It doesnt have an auto turn off so not sure what to do
