having problems with senior management regarding planned and submitted holiday, they have not included the holiday on the rosta therefore they say I should have noticed it was not on the rosta sooner. I will loose money obviously if I do not go n the holiday. How can I be diplomatic and get across without being rude that it is not my responsibility and yes I didnt notice until much later that it wasnt on the rosta

Hello lola rose
I'll move your thread to the 'Employment and Jobseeking' board.

Hi Lola,
Was this holiday previously authorised? When are you due to leave?
I would explain to them that, whilst you would be willing to change your plans if you were staying at home, you have booked to go away and so you are not able to change your plans. Whilst you appreciate that your holidays have not been incorporated into the roster, you did give them plenty of advance notice of your holidays, and your annual leave was authorised before you made any plans (assuming it was!).
Best of luck with getting it sorted out xGone ... or have I?0 -
I wouldn't labour the "it wasn't my responsibility" bit in your position. It may not have been your responsibility to schedule it with everyone else's, and I can understand how easy it is to not notice something like that because you assume you're not down to work then. However, presumably if you HAD noticed it sooner, it would have been easier to sort it out.
Can you see an obvious way of sorting it? Are there colleagues who would be willing to cover your hours / shifts? If you have their agreement in principle, that should help. Again, even if this isn't your responsibility then it is more positive to offer a solution rather than just pointing out the problem.
And do you have a signed off holiday request? that would help as well ...
I do feel for you: my boss seems to just say "Yes" to everyone's request, and then realise later how short-staffed we're going to be ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Do you have a copy of the authorised holiday request form?
That is really what you need. If you have that signed then they can't argue with it, and I agree with the above, say you have flights booked (even if you haven't).
It'll be more of a problem if you don't have any kind of signed authority. Are they saying you never requested it? Or are they admitting you requested it but saying it's not actually convenient now?0 -
hi everyone, yes I have the request form and it was signed and i had given 9 weeks notice. I`m going to ask agan today if she has sorted my request for my public holiday/a/leave.. she will prob say to ask one of my colleagues, however, I`m not prepared to do this snce this puts pressure on staff to work a sat night when they wuld rather be with their families, and realy wy should I. Departmental requirements for holidays is 6 weekd notice Just wanting to have the right approach and communicate well with wording0

Well someone's going to have to put pressure on someone if you're going to have your leave - wouldn't you rather ask around and see if someone is WILLING to cover this before your boss REQUIRES someone to do it?Signature removed for peace of mind0
