have you thought of camping at all? as for your budget, you could get a great tent with all the stuff for about £300 to £400 then you would be able to go on more holidays than just this one?
  • I would go to west wales, the cardigan area, there is a great beach called poppit beach which is fab for kids as its wide and shallow with sandunes, lots of lovely secret beaches from cardigan down towards fishguard, then the other side of cardigan you have mwnt beach which is a cove like beach and its gets nice and rocky beaches as you start to heard north towards aberaeron - new quay is a really lovely little town along the coast road

whilst I also like pembroke, tenby can be touristy and busy, if you do go that way then go to solva, newgale and st davids (whitesands beach) but for me, the best area of wales is around cardigan and 20 miles radius of it

as to where to stay, I cant say as I grew up in that area so have always had family to stay with but there are lots of small caravan parks and one that used to be near cardigan island towards mwnt - right up high overlooking the sea - there is also a small one right near poppit beach

I agree, cardigan is beautiful. We went last year and stayed near n
Borth but travelled to newquay. There is a haven caravan park called quaywest nearby. We have book to stay here in July as we loved it so much. We went out on a boat to see the dolphins and was very lucky and saw them. The boat trip before us did'nt . That afternoon we were having ice cream and everyone was walking towards the pier so we had a look and there they were so close to the pier jumping through the water. It is beautiful there at newquay reminds me of Tenby till it was taken over on weekends with hen and stag weekends. Pembroke is lovely but I have been all over Wales and I have to admit cardigan has my vote. We even went to a restaurant can't remember the name right on the pier with a terrace so we were overlooking it all. Was beautiful. Let us know how your holiday goes. Wales is beautiful x

Pembrokeshire is an amazing place. My mother's family is from there so I have been going all my life. We now take our kids every year and they love it. The beaches are beautiful and there is lots to do. My kids are happy just to be on the beach, there are some hidden away ones too that not many folk go on. We stay between Solva and St David's at a little place called Nine Wells Caravan Park. We hire a caravan which is about £350 for a week, 5 mins walk from the beach. But if you search the net you can find cheap caravans on private land/farms.
Pembrokeshire isn't very commercialised and retains a lot of character. Wherever you choose I'm sure your kids will be happy.
  • New Quay gets my vote, we go there every year. Beautiful, clean beaches and such a pretty place. We see dolphins every year. I doubt you'd get anywhere to stay for less than £80 but it's worth taking a look. No shortage of lovely beaches a car ride away either.
  • Check out bluestones in South Wales. We have been there a couple of times. You can get a self catering lodge out of term time for your budget. Loads of activities. A massive wonderful pool and a gigantic inside play area. Google it. It's gorgeous. Have a wonderful time what ever you do xx

£80 for four nights in August is going to be hard to beat! There's a big Tesco in Pembroke Dock and a McDonalds.

Beaches nearby in easy drive of Pembroke dock that I know of are

Freshwater East: Beach is very nice and normally quite sheltered

Freshwater West is more exposed but is beautiful (it's where Dobby the house elf had his house in Harry Potter)

Barafundle is an amazing beach but about a 15 minute walk from the car park.

There are nice beaches at Tenby and Saundersfoot if you want more touristy beaches with shops and tourist type stuff

Bosherton Lilly ponds are a nice walk and lead down to a sandy beach beach
    https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=freshwater+west&hl=en&sll=51.618536,-4.901898&sspn=0.012031,0.033023&t=h&hnear=Freshwater+West&z=15

Oh yeah and make sure you visit Pembroke Castle

The problem for the OP is that there's currently no Travelodge in Llandudno. However there will be next year when they've finished converting the old Clarence Hotel. So perhaps if the OP has a good time in Pembrokeshire this year then they could always visit Llandudno next year. The new Travelodge will be pretty much within walking distance of all the attractions Llandudno has to offer including the beach, the pier, the shops and the Orme.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk
  • How about Porthmadog? There's a newish travel lodge on the edge of town. It's a great base for exploring Snowdonia (both the mountains and coast).

I'd recommend visiting Portmerion, Greenwood activity park, the mountain railway, Criccith, the Llyn peninsula (particularly whistling sands beach / porth oer) and Beddgelert to start with! It's a beautiful area.

Enjoy wherever you decide to go!
