Tax Credit overpayment

I received yesterday a tax credit overpayment request letter from 2008 for 150.00 - in the letter it also confirmed they may not have contacted me in the time between the overpayment and this letter. I am searching for a notice from this time to confirm however was under the impression that overpayments were paid back from future tax credits which I have been on ever since. If I can't find my notices ( I have the last 3 years for definite) can I request copies and if so is there a charge? Thanks

Thank you I'll get onto that tomorrow. If I owe it then fair do's however I am hoping they will allow time to pay seeing as though they have taken 5 years to advise me of their error!0

Well I have just rung the number on the letter (Debt Management) and I have until 8pm tomorrow to ring them back with a payment plan or they will take the debt to collection. I said I have not received any correspondence to which I was told yes you have in October 2008 telling you it was owed! Wouldnt discuss why it hadnt been repaid from tax credits or anything. Having checked my bank though I have payments out to HMRC NDDS starting Nov 2008 so I am off to the bank this lunch to check what they were for. Unbelievable though!0

Thanks Blondebubbles - I have been on tax credits as a single parent continually since that date. I am going to give them a call this evening when I finish work.0
