Hi all
I am about to start a dmp on the 2nd of Feb. All has been set up and ive had no phone calls or harrasment from creditors so far.
This morning i recieved a letter from Barclays saying they were terminating my account in accordance to sections 76 (1) and 98 (1) of the consumer credit act 1974. This will come in to affect on 24/1/14, and they are making a demand for full and immediate payment of the balance of my account (£549.57). They are also charging interest of £0.24 pence per day until full payment is made.
They go on to say that if it is not settled they may pass thr debt to recovery units or agents.
Can anyone give me some advice as what to do about this, as i wilk not have the money to pay when requested.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a fairly standard letter.
Was that an authorised overdraft?
Did they know you were starting a DMP?:beer:0 -
Hi,
Who are you banking with now?
Don't send the letter, keep it and file it with any other communications you have with Barclays for future reference.
Let SC know, you can type the letter into an email and send to them asking for advice if you like and call them on Monday about it too
All that will happen is SC will send a copy of the income & expenditure form with an offer of payment and it will become another creditor added to the list.
Or in other words, yes it is an automated generic letter and you don't need to worry about it
You should probably send them the "stop charging me interest" template letter in the meantime (I think you'll need to wait until after the first payment is made to them).
In the meantime, use the DMP support thread as it has loads of useful info and is used by loads of people on DMP's https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4437925

£450 of it was authorised, im guessing the rest is from charges since i switched bank accout.
And yes they should have had contact with Step Change by now.DEBT FREE AS OF 28/6/17 :j:beer:0 -
Just write to them, referring them to Stepchange and that if they continue to write to you without accepting this then you will be lodging a complaint about unreasonable behaviour in not dealing with an appointed debt charity.:beer:0

You'll probably get quite a few such letters, many contradicting other ones. Send them on to Stepchange and don't worry about the threats, it's just scare tactics.0

Its a standard prior to default terming the agreementDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
