Trying to find a way to replace some of my income! any help much appreciated

Hi, I hate to bore people with my personal issues but unfortunately I am lacking inspiration at the moment. I am currently running a small pet shop business and its going very well, my partner and I manage to take about £1500 total p/m as wages from the business and so far this income seems to be pretty reliable from the business (if anything trade is slowly picking up since april when we began) unfortunately I have assessed our total outgoings including all of our rent/mortgage/bills/loans and it would seem that we need a £1400 a month to cover everything before we have eaten or put fuel in the van. because of this i am also working night shifts at a hospital 3 or 4 nights a week cleaning which is a very hard graft especially as i am trying to run a business at the same time. from this I make about £900 p/m.
The problem is that although we are very much enjoying working on our business and making it grow, the night work is starting to get to me and I am desperate to find a way to replace that income! none of the £1400 a month outgoings can be cut down in any way as they are all fixed sums, I think i could probably cut down on some of my personal spendings but overall I think that the least I could get by with is an extra £450 a month. there would be no point in selling the house or moving as my rent/mortgage is already about as cheap as i could get anyway. I don't have any great skills and there aren't a lot of jobs out there that fit in with someone in my position. I was thinking maybe trying to come up with a second business venture with low running costs that could make me maybe £500 a month but other than that i have no good, solid ideas. Im starting to feel the onset of depression so want to solve this before I become a miserable git! any help/ideas much appreciated, sorry for my whining

There are a wide variety of threads in this part of the MSE forum that give you ideas about earning money with specific websites. You'd have to have a significant amount of hours to put in to earn £450-£900 a month and I don't have any second business suggestions to you, I imagine most people would keep their ideas for themselves when it comes to a unique business idea.

Hopefully having a look through some of the threads on this forum will help, look at websites such as paid to click websites like Clixsense, Swagbucks etc and perhaps writing websites such as Textbroker, although not to be blunt but you would need to use better spelling and grammar than in your original post.

Another option is perhaps your husband could get another job while you work on building up the business, or vice versa.

    Good luck to you x

I agree, you would have to find some time, to find that kind of money.

excuse my grammar by the way the post was written in a rush.
I certainly would need time to make that sort of money but as it stands i work 3 12 hour night shifts a week, If i gave that up I would have a lot more time but of course without having that extra income available instantly its hard to make the jump. Maybe if i try and save enough so that Im secure without the job for a couple of months that would help give me time to get something else going

^ I was a newbie asking for advice last week, and I'm a busy working mum of two, and wrote something in a rush, and my god I was jumped on, I didn't articulate myself properly, so I'm very guarded with what I'll say in this forum. Not by the person above tho :-)
  • If you already have a pet shop, can i suggest you look at 'trying' to get more people in the door!? Advertising your business will bring in (excuse the pun) a lot more business - it doesn't have to cost either as you can use social media to do that - have you got a facebook page for your business? if not get one! they are free, just make sure to update it on a regular basis and when you do you can advertise deals / offers etc as a way to get more people not just to know about your shop but also as a way to get people to buy - which obviously in the long run will mean greater profits and less stress for you financially - hope this help's!

Yes, we do have a facebook page, and your right about needing to update it regularly, we do to an extent but once again part of why I want out of my extra job is so I can spend more time updating my facebook page. Also its high time we built a website but once again that can take a little time. I think that time management may be one of my biggest problems, first i need more of it, then I need to learn to get as much done with it as possible

Would it be more tax efficient to take your wages as a quarterly dividend?

My comment about grammar/spelling wasn't intended as me being a grammar nazi, that kind of thing doesn't bother me as I am not 100% on it all myself, was just meaning that if you want to join writing websites you'd need/want to spend more time or effort on what you're posting, as otherwise pay/work may dry up :)

No offence meant at all, people can do what they like, say it how they like etc, just pointing out that for writing websites such as those I suggested poor grammar/spelling would be rejected :)

Also, with regards to being in a rush, if you have a very high standard of spelling/grammar or a good spell checker it needn't take any extra time to post a review or article for a content website and get it accepted. I rush everything I do online, I still manage to get my work accepted on writing sites, I recommend Google Chrome as it highlights most things straight away avoiding any potential for work to be rejected.

Hope I help someone with my comments x

My comments weren't aimed at you hun, just some people weren't very nice on my very first thread, it became heated and was taken down, I suspect it gave the wrong impression of the forum, which didn't help me ;-)

No I know they weren't :) Just like to clarify we arent all just waiting to jump on people for such petty things :)

MSE is a GREAT place, I had a run in with someone when I first started out, I have added them to my ignore list, means I see that they've posted but don't see their posts (unless someone has quoted them) and it makes it much easier to ignore people.

The advice that I have received here has been absolutely fantastic, there are some truly wonderful members here :)

Give us another chance, not many mean people here from what I've seen, just the odd difference of opinion but nothing mean :) Well, apart from that person I have on my ignore list!
