Who do Job Centre Advisers think they are?

Went to sign on today. My adviser wasn't there so had to see someone new. We spoke about what jobs I had applied for etc. All was fine and then she said "I looked to see when your job seekers will run out as I assumed you are getting contribution based. I see you are getting income based and wondered why as you are married. Do you mind me asking why".

I said yes I do mind you asking as it is none of your business. My claim was accepted and everything is above board.

    nice

mine has just told me to apply for a self employed vacancy

if they can make you go self employed then we wouldn't need them, they would be out of work as all they would have to do is tell everyone to go window cleaning etc
  • If this person actually asked such a question, you should of demanded to speak with her EO1 (Line Manager). Clearly she doesn't want the job.

Speaking of the self-employment thing. In the past, I asked my advisor what would happen if I did go self-employed, but found I wasn't earning enough to make a living and had to wind up my business what would happen and could I apply for JSA?

    Answer...."Er, don't know about that.

No answer I think WAS my answer! They are so desperate to get rid off people on JSA they will suggest anything.

Also, I went on one of those become self-employed courses...the ones where the "Training" provider gets a few grand for anyone they can get to sign off and work for themselves. I asked the very same question to them.
Funny enough, they couldn't answer my question either...doesn't exactly make you want to take the risk, eh!

Yes you can go back on jsa . I put my business on hold and signed on again, I'm now self employed again and have been for a year.

The advisor I had was lovely, couldn't fault her, have met some jobsworths in my time but she wasn't one of them.
