hi, any advice is very welcome as anything to do with computers is double dutch to me...i bought a cheap smart tv a few weeks ago and at first it connected to our wireless network and everything was fine...after a couple of days with no problems the tv says it is still connected to our wireless network but the tv will not connect to the internet!
I rang Virgin and asked for their advice and basically they have sold me a new 12 month contract for faster broadband and a better router.....will this definitely solve the problem with the Smart tv connection as i don't really want to enter into a new contract if there is a simpler solution....(felt like they weren't listening just wanted to sell me something)
all our other devices in the house, (phones,xbox,2 computers,DS's) connect to our wireless network just not the tv
PLEASE HELP....many thanks

Unlikely.
The TV indicates that it is connected to your wifi but cannot actually connect to the web?0 -
yeah on the wireless connection screen it shows our IP address etc and the connection bars, and says connected to wifi but when you press the button to access the internet it says no internet connection!!0

Switch the tv and router off and on again; reset the TV and re-input your wireless settings; try connecting the TV direct to the router via an ethernet cable.
One of those should work. Failing that it's more likely to be a problem with the TV than the router.0 -

Do any of your other devices connect to the internet?
Turn power off your router for 30 secs and switch on again.
On tv disconnect from wifi and then connect again.
Not sure why you said yes to a new contract with virgin for faster broadband unless you wanted it anyway though?0 -
yep everything else connects no problem, its just the tv....and the man at Virgin said he was pretty sure i couldnt connect on the telly as we had an older router and needed upgrading, but he couldnt be 100% positive if we'd be able to connect with the smart tv after the upgrade0

But if I read you correctly your TV is connected to the router, or have I got that wrong?
So sounds like the Virgin man was just selling you stuff you probably don;t need.0 -
our IP address etc
If the TV has the same IP address as another device, the WiFi will look fine, but the TCP/IP is messed up, and it won't get internet. If you've got DHCP on this shouldn't happen. Can you confirm that your TV isn't fighting with something else for an IP address?
This doesn't really look like anything to do with Virgin ATM.0 -
What is the make and model of the TV?
Will it connect to other things such as iPlayer?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0
