Carpet advice

I would appreciate advice from carpet professionals who aren't selling me anything please (so commission doesn't temper the advice ).

Over 40 years we have had wool carpet twice, though we have let it go to the point of wearing thin in patches and being faded and stained (this one due to incontinent dog). Wool is very expensive, though quite lovely, but we thought that cheaper carpet (obviously needing replacing more often) would this time, be a better option (will look good longer ?).

The dilemma is what price range/type/brand of carpet to go for in our circumstances :

Lounge diner (kitchen door one end an hall the other), so likely to end up with a track (not a problem so far as we had patterned carpet)

Stairs and landing to be same carpet as the shape of the
living room leaves enough for hall and landing

Two adults, visiting grandchildren and two dogs

A bit limited on colour as I don't want beiges/browns, preferring a jade green or apricot.

I always find that a 80/20 twist wool mix is the best. I tend to go for the higher price range as I believe you get what you pay for & a cheaper carpet can look shabby within just a couple of years or so, especially with heavy use.

It sounds as if the rooms/area you want covered will be quite high traffic areas, so you need something to withstand this.

There are many synthetic fabrics on the market now used in carpets. I don't have any experience of them myself. But many small independent retailers are happy to give advice without trying to push you into a sale, so perhaps it's worth popping in and having a look around if there is one near you.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
