Bathroom ceiling

I have a problem with my bathroom ceiling. I have 2 extractor fans, one above the shower and one above the toilet. I had problems with mould and flaking paint.

I used bleach and water to clean the mould off the ceiling. I then painted the whole ceiling with Dulux mould resistant bathroom paint.
The mould is back and the paint is flaking at the edges where the ceiling meets the wall tiles. I keep the window open when showering and am at a loss as to why I am still having problems.
Any ideas?

  • I'm having similar issues, been looking at uPVC cladding that you only have to wipe clean but I'm on the fence about pulling the trigger on that.

Does anyone have experience with that?

I've done it i. My bathroom and have done it for 3 customers.

There are a lot if really good colour ways/designs out. Easy to put up. Maintenance free and easy clean

    I would recommend it.

You need to ensure that the ceiling above the bathroom is well insulated to avoid any cols spots. Also, are the extractors connected to the lights? If they only come on when the
Ugh tux on then they won't extract when you shower during the day with the light off.

I saw some of this as well and I have been considering it myself. I wanted a vapour barrier on my bathroom ceiling and I wondered whether this would do the job if the joints were sealed. However the sealing could cause mould issues which I don't want! A perfectly flat coloured plastic ceiling would be ideal. That could very easily be wiped over and shouldn't encourage any mould or fungi.

Maybe a light blue clouds effect, I must have a secret latent inner desire for al fresco showering lol

We had the same problem, was really bad. The HA got someone in to scrape the ceiling, re plaster it and paint with anti mould paint, they then installed a new fan which comes on automatically if it detects moisture. So far so good, no recurrence, but it is early days.
