Are you an employee? If you are and get your expenses paid then you should be paying it off every month and then you wont be charged. One method a lot of people seem to use is to have a separate card and not mix it with their personal spending. Even better would be to get a cashback card so you can make something from it. My work generally pays my travel and hotels upfront to benefit from a bulk buying scheme, but if I submit expenses by the 9th they are paid at the end of that month, so getting a card with a statement date which fits with the payment schedule would help. Some cards let you choose the statement date.
  • yeah i am an employee, I claim them back and it always pays it off but im being charged the purchase interest, last month it was £24

Do you clear the full balance each month?
    lbm 11/06/12 dept total 11499.47
  • Why are you being charge interest? From the sounds of it the employer is a bit slow but not so slow that you would be charged interest.

Remember you must clear the card each month in full or you will have interest charged. Personally my employers pay me in time on my expenses so I dont care about interest rates and instead look for cashback or airmiles etc

If your employer cannot pay you in time to allow you to clear the balance in full each month then can you not enquire about getting a corporate/ business card so their late payment becomes their own problem

If you pay it off every month, there should be no interest.

Are you taking cash out on it at all.

You will always have purchase interest carried forward if you don't start the statement month with a zero balance.

Get your firm to provide you with a CC they pay. If not any card you can apply for will do - only use if for company purchases and ensure you clear it in full by the statement date.
  • ..........Or at the very least claim the interest back from your employer.
