good evening everyone
due to the 23rd's windy weather, my boundary wall (also the garden wall) collapsed. its a L shape brick wall (over 2meters), single layer unfortunately.
after Christmas, i had many quotes from £1500-£2500, some of them can do the double layer which seems quite sturdy for the in future purpose.
and suddenly, i realised that my insurance company may allow me to claim as it does indicates garden walls, hedges, gates and fences are included in the building insurance.
my question is , if i go to claim from my building insurance company, do they just re-brick the collapsed wall or can do a double layer brick wall?
many thanks

Don't quote me on this, but I would have thought that they would put the wall back to it's original state at the time you took the insurance out.
On the other hand, it would be in your and their interests to have a solid wall, which I assume a double layered wall would provide.0 -
They will offer a like for like replacement ie single brick wall.
However, you can ask the contractor when he starts to do a double brick wall and you pay him the difference.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Get quotes to rebuild the wall, just not mention it will be double width.0

We had a ceiling collapse at our last house (due to a failed water cylinder) and our insurance co were only prepared to replace like-for-like, ie, nasty thick artex and fluorescent tube lighting - as fitted by the PO in the '80s - which we obviously didn't want, so we paid extra to have smooth plaster and down lighters fittedMortgage-free for fourteen years!

YEs, the insurance will normally pay to put you back in the position you were originally in, but you should be able to agree to pay the difference to upgrade. I did this when I had a flood shortly after I moved in, to get better quality flooring than I originally had.0
