Reversed payments

I'm in Japan and having trouble with my nationwide visa credit card. Not being accpeted at machines. I'm looking into that, but one thing bothers me if you could help
my card failed at a machine at a guesthouse and apparently they phoned up visa and processed the payment over the phone. Which apparently was accepted. 10 minutes later the manager comes and says they got a phone call saying the payment didnt go through. So I paid in cash. I was a bit annoyed so I phoned my bank and they said the payment was reversed.

Now what I want to know is does the fact the payment was reserved mean the payment was not accepted and therefore did not go through or did the guesthouse phone back and cancel the payment as they prefered cash. Is this possible to tell ?

  • They will probably never tell you.
Look at it this way you take money out of an ATM - something goes wrong with the machine - you don't get your money but the machine cancels the transaction and refunds the account.
    Something similar has happened here.

I do hope that you took more than one card with you - just in case.
