B of S promotional rate

I was tidying up today and I found a statement from Bank of Scotland for a credit card, which was 90p in credit. I phoned up to close it and I was told a 0% BT offer with a 1% fee was going to be applied from the 1st of January. I went ahead and cancelled it anyway, with the 90p going to the Alzheimers Society.

That's the best fee I've seen for some time though. MBNA are now asking for 5%. Would that be a retention offer, or would they really have been planning to send me that from 1st Jan?

  • There is a lot of competition out there - some let you have a long term interest free period (is 26 months the longest now?) other compete by reducing the normal balance transfer rate (3%?).

You need to work out which is better for you.
