Impressive MSE behaviour - a teenager collected nearly £600 worth of food in the supermarket, used coupons carefully and spent 4p on the whole lot. He then donated it to charity:

...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

I read that the other day, what a lovely lad! I can see why his mum is so proud of him, what a lovely thing to do.
I watched those extreme couponing shows in the states, and you've got to be so dedicated to it to get any major discounts. I tried it for a while here, but got nowhere near the discounts this lad has got, well done him!0 -
Not complaining - but most free coupons are one per transaction ...I wouldn't be surprized if most of that £600 was just abit of fraud of the same coupon used over and over when it wasn't supposed to (even if your allowed to reprint their usally meant as a promotional offer per person)
Nice what he did by giving it away though.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I dont think it was. It was numerous coupons, it has been posted on articles that supermarkets have a limit to how many can be used but they seem to have allowed him to use a lot of coupons in this instance.0

If he'd brought loads of dif items, but it lists what he picked up i.e 80 packs of biscuits. Makes you wonder why stop at 80? Surely the coupon wouldn't say limit 80.
I might be wrong but if he hadn't gone to the till with a crowd people who all know it was for a charity + press...I wonder if he would of been told where to go.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
afaik he wrote to manufacturers saying it was for charity, and got donated lots of vouchers - I assume they would be for full retail and a big handful. The supermarket must also have overlooked the "one per transaction" rules in this instance.0

Hes been doing this for a while now, he was in the press last year because he had managed to get his and his mums christmas dinner for something like 10p, I think he trawls coupon sites and collects them, something about money being tight after his dad left so he looked to try and make savings on the food budget.0

I think its excellent, even if the supermarket don't let you use that many coupons usually its nice that they made an exception for him to do his bit for charity.0

What does it matter? At least he did a lovely thing for charity. Many boys his age wouldn't even think of doing something like that.0 -
I dont think it was an exception, hes done it before, if hes managed to get his shopping down to pennies throughout the year which he has, he must be using a hell of a lot of coupons. From recollection the stuff he bought last year also included a lot of quorn, I would assume that quorn must give out a lot of vouchers. Theres an article in todays mirror I think where he gives tips on how to do it, he was supposed to be setting up a website last year, extreme couponing but I dont think he actually did.0

Oh well, regardless.
