Halifax Clarity Reward - Problems for aqua customers?

Has anybody successfully applied for a Halifax Clarity credit card while already holding an aqua Reward card?

I have had a current account with Halifax for over a year now. Since then, I have been checking back from time to time with Halifax whether their system is offering the credit card to me (not applying, but just asking them what their customer records say), but they keep telling me no. I am told that I could still apply, but the application would get rejected outright.

I probably don't have the greatest credit report since I have only been in the country for about two years now, but based on my income/history with Halifax I don't see why they wouldn't offer this to me.

However, I did notice that my aqua card is actually offered by the same provider as their Clarity card. Is there any chance they don't want me to leave aqua card (since it offers worse rates), so they will never offer me the Clarity card?

The Aqua card is just administered by Halifax (I have a feeling it isn't even doing that now) they don't actually loan the money. So it won't have anything to do with that.

I think you need to get to the bottom of why Halifax are rejecting you outright.

It has been announced that the current Aqua credit card is coming to an end and you will not be able to make any new purchsaes after 22 January 2014.

Existing customers have been invited to apply for a new Aqua reward card (only offering 0.5% cashback, still up to a maximum of £100 a year) but I fear you might not be accepted if Halifax is rejecting you outright.

Ask Halifax why they reject you outright. Check also the credit files from all 3 credit reference agencies to ensure there is nothing adverse listed there.

    :)

I have the Aqua Reward and got a guaranteed offer for the Halifax Clarity through my online banking. I've only had my account with them since Feb/Mar for the free fivers, but from May I had my joint account with my partner with them, which has a credit of about £1200 per month.

My application went through fine. Fair enough I have the top rate but I've only had credit for about 18 months and only 21 so not a massively long time to get my rating up.

I'd say it's more likely something lurking in your credit report then the fact you have an Aqua card.

Aqua card is nothing to do with Halifax. The card used to be issued by the Bank of Scotland but it changed a while back to Progressive Credit ltd, so having an Aqua card will have no bearing on any Halifax/BoS internal credit scores.
