Housing benefit question

A friend and her husband lived in a council owned bungalow.....he became ill and they had help to convert for disability......they then purchased from the council at discount and sold to his daughter. The husband then did and my friend still lives in the house but claims housing benefit which goes to the daughter in law
I am not sure but to me this seems morally wrong.....is it ok to do this.

There is no blood connection.
Nice little earner
No idea if it is legal or not but it doesn't look legally wrong, just morally wrong.:cool:0 -

I would report them for suspected fraud. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
It might be considered to be what is known as a 'contrived tenancy'.0

How long ago did they sell the house to the daughter? You cannot claim housing benefit for a property that you owned in the previous 5 years (with the exception of if it was being sold to avoid repossessions) I assume it was a long time ago if the money from the sale has all gone0

1) You can only rent a previous home if it was sold as part of a mortgage rescue scheme.
2) You can only claim HB for a previous owned home if you haven't owned it in the past 5 years.
3) If you sold a home below its market value I would question why you have deprived yourself of the capital value and where did the capital from the sale go?These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
My daughter and her husband were told they could not claim in as their house they were renting from my daughters in laws. I don't know how councils work so only going on what they told me.0
