Every month for the past 3 years when my 105K mortgage kicked in I've estimated the date the mortgage will be no more. It had become an obsession. Much of the day was spent thinking about how I could pay the damn thing off quicker.
I regularly overpaid by £400 per month and that was making a dent. And then a bit of a bombshell. Redundancy. Decide not to appeal it (the thought of working with the very people responsible for wanting me out sent a large number of shivers down my spine) and have to reassess all my finances again.
With the overpayments, the redundnacy money and a surprisingly high return on a (pretty much forgotten) endowment policy I am not only mortgage-free but a few grand in credit - unbelievable. In 3 years 5 months and 13 days.
With luck and fortitude it can be done. The very best of luck to you all.
No job though!
