Morning
My freshly skimmed kitchen and dining room ceilings are now dry (salmon colour) , i have bought a contract matt white paint to do them plus walls , with the ceilings , should i bother watering down for the mist coat ? as this is the paint i would use anyway to paint them?
Or water down , do the ceilings mist coat , then paint again without diluting?
Pls feel free to advise!

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

ALWAYS mist coat new plaster. Water Matt emulsion down 30 - 40%. Give it one coat of this mist coat then t full coats of normal strength emulsion.
If you don't mist coat new plaster, expect the emulsion to peel off.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
new plaster should be mist coated with watered down emulsion - we recently used some dulux white that was very thin but added addition water. 50:50 water / paint.0

the first coat of any surface is the most impotant , if you get that right , you won't have any trouble , if you don't bother then expect problems in the future ,0

Thanks all , i agree , we shall do it by the book , the contract water based matt paint i have now says i shoudnt need to water down but if i do , to do it 10 % water......ignore that and do the 50/50 or ?
Also , is matt paint OK in general terms for ceilings in kitchens ? (just thinking i can use the undiluted paint left for them as the paints white anyway...?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
30 - 40% is about right. Use the undiluted emulsion for your ceiling. It'll be fine.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
