Wallpapered ceiling direct onto plasterboard - removal help!

Is it possible to strip this back for painting? If so any tips for doing so?
Or are we looking at redoing the ceiling in some way?
Looking for a time effective solution that won't break the bank!

Peel off top layer then soak with a plant mister spray and fingers crossed the bottom layer will peel off easily without any serious damage to the plaster board. Scraper free removal with only fingers for peeling

Thanks. With walls I've sugar soaped to remove adhesive, but the walls are plastered! I assume the ceiling needs skimming? If so do I need to remove the paste thoroughly? I know I need to get all the paper off because plaster stuck to paper probably wouldn't work!

I had the same thing. I very much doubt the plasterboard underneath will be satisfactory for painting directly, it will look terrible (from my experience).

You have a choice of either repapering the ceiling (cheap, but a devilishly tricky job to do neatly) or getting it skimmed.

You can take the wallpaper off the plasterboard with an ordinary steam stripper, but be careful not to use it too long on any one area and also be careful not to gouge through the paper covering of the plasterboard.
