Advice on prepaid card

I am having trouble with a major company regarding my prepaid mastercard credit card. I have used this successfully with a number of retailers who have not only been able to take payments from my card but have been able to make payments and refunds back to my card quite successfully.

One major company (I won't name them) has taken a payment from my card but insists they cannot pay back to my card. They started by saying my mastercard could not accept payments. I illustrated to them how this was not true by showing how other companies had paid back to my card, and since then they have come up with false excuse after false excuse which I have defeated each time; but still they will not make the payment. My guess is there is an issue with their payment server and software and that this may be unable to process a payment. My position is that is their problem and not mine.

Can anyone advise me as to whether or not the following understanding is correct? When a payment is taken using a particular method then the usual method of refunding payments is to use the same payment method. Am I entitled to insist on this? The company knew that they might have to make refunds or payments; if they cannot do this should they have not taken the payment in the first place or at least advised me at the outset that an alternative payment method for refunds and payments would be required?

If the company cannot make the payment in this way, am I entitled to stipulate the way the payment should be made as I would like it to be at my convenience and not that of the company? The company admits they owe me the money but their suggestions for payment method are not convenient or acceptable to me.

    I guess it's a bookmaker.

In fact there are two types of Mastercard cards issued in UK:
    • 'UK'
    • 'international'

There are serious problems with withdrawals (refunds) to the latter. E.g.:
Please note you cannot withdraw more to a UK MasterCard credit or debit card than you deposited with that card. Also, you cannot withdraw anything to international credit or debit MasterCards. These rules are imposed by MasterCard.

Thank you for your response. It is a bookmaker, yes, and I didn't post in the matched betting thread as it wasn't a matched betting issue.

I note what you have said but I am confused, though. My mastercard must be one that can accept payments as four bookmakers have paid back to it. Surely this would not have been possible if payments to my card were forbidden? I even have it in writing from my bank that there are no restrictions on paying back to my card so I don't understand why the current company can't do it. They keep telling me the problem is that a restriction is imposed by my card issuer. I have sent them a copy of the confirmation of no restrictions from my bank but still they won't pay back to it.
  • Does anyone know if I can pay a Prepaid card into a NS&I savings account and is it fee free..?
