Can anyone recommend a washing machine

I'm looking for a new washing machine but struggling to find something to fit the bill. My current (broken) one had a spin speed of up to 1200 however on the quick wash (47mins) it only spun to 800. Even if you chose spin on its own the max it would go to was 800. To get the full 1200 spin you had to have a 1hr30 full wash. I know not all machines work like this but they don't tell you this in advance! I'm looking for a washer that does a quick wash AND lets you spin at the fastest speed all in one programme.

If anyone's bought a machine recently that does this, please recommend.

  • I have a Miele W 1714. Quick wash is 30 mins. Spin speed can be selected 1400. 1200. 1000, 800 and zero. Temp selected to 40, 30 and cold. Quick wash of 30 mins retained with any of above selection of settings.

This is a four year old model which will have now been superceded but no doubt with a model of similar spec.

Thanks, that's exactly the sort of thing I'm after. Shame Mieles cost a fortune, even compared to Bosch.
  • bosch are not what they used to be. they are built cheaply in spain using more plastic than metal. only 2 brands I wold buy personally are miele and lg. I spent 12 years a store manager for currys so whilst im not an engineer, I know exactly what returns etc came back and they are the only 2 I would even look at for myself

My machine that's now broken is a Bosch and is 10 years old. It's tough trying to find one that'll do a fast spin speed on a quick cycle. I really can't see why a machine must be on for a 2 hour programme just to get the quickest spin.

I'll have a look at the LGs or see if a Miele at £600+ is a sound investment!
  • Mine has an independant spin cycle and so does this which includes a 5 year guarantee.

An independent spin cycle doesn't mean you can select the fastest spin though. My Bosch "spin only" cycle only goes up to 800, although the machine is capable of 1200.
  • Fair enough but mine does allow speed selection from 400 to 1400 in 200 increments. I thought it might be worth checking out other brands with this independant spin feature to see what they offer. Not clear in the the one I linked to what speeds are available on spin only.

    Good luck.

My Bosch has the ability to change the spin speed on set programmes so it might be worth investigating, rather than presuming the variations will be the same on the one you bought 10 years ago, OP.

That's if you're still interested in a Bosch, of course.

Got a 6KG Beko that cost £169.99 when new that lets you specify temperature, wash cycle, and spin speed independently.

It does between 3-4 washes per day, 6 days a week and is still going strong after 3 years.

My Zanussi lasted for over 20 years. And that was with 3 children, and very dirty work clothes.
