EA won't accept broker confirming I have deposit

I had an offer accepted on a flat on Friday and the ES made me an appointment for today to come in show them proof of ID and my AIP. They mentioned when booking the appointment that they have in house financial advisor and I told them and I told them I was happy with my broker and didn't need any advice.

I've just been to the apppointment which was with the FA. I stressed again that I am happy with my broker and he didn't seem to push his services. He did however ask how much I earn, ask if I could show proof of deposit and I think he mentioned seeing a wage slip.

I asked if I could get my broker to confirm I have the deposit and that I earn enough to get a mortgage and he said no. I don't really want to show them wage slips and savings account statements, but said if it was absolutely necessary I would. He then said he would speak to the agent who is dealing with property and check with him whether they needed to see wage slips and proof of deposit and they'd get back to me.

Most of the advice on here seems to be that I probably shouldn't even have shown my AIP, and that I can get a broker to confirm I am good for the deposit and mortgage, so not sure why he said no this suggestion. Should I just politely refuse to give the info and perhaps tell him my solicitor will confirm? I haven't yet decided on one but will do very soon.

Ask your solicitor to send them confirmation of your financial worthiness and tell them to stop trying to get details of your financial situation from you.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

I think that's what they said, I was still annoyed at having to sit through an appointment with the FA in the first place! He did definitely ask what I earn, and was told I wasn't willing to divulge.

I'm amazed you had the patience to turn up and waste your time with him.

    Which agent is this?

If I'd known the appointment was with their FA I probably would have declined it. Not sure I want to divulge names at this early stage...

I'm now not really sure what happens next, or if I need to do anything. I have my broker checking 5 year fixed term mortgages as I decided to change from the 2 year fix my AIP was for, I have a selection of conveyancing quotes to check through this evening to decide on one (will need to check they're on the conveyancing panel of whichever lender I choose), but not sure at what point I am ok to put in a mortgage application and instruct a solicitor.

I guess I phone the EA in the morning and check all is ok without a deposit check, and if it is (or if they'll accept confirmation of finances from my solicitor), I go ahead with mortgage and solicitor? Not sure what happens if they won't accept solicitor's confirmation???

Stop ringing the EA and let your solicitor write to them making the formal offer, start the buying process, start the searches etc.
Can you speak to the vendor? second viewings ? and state what the EA is up to and how this is delaying you buying the property.

Vendor had already moved out so before I viewed the flat for the first time so I have no easy way of speaking to them.

The EA haven't actually delayed anything yet as I only met them this evening and I still need to make a decision on a mortgage and solictor (I intend to do both tomorrow).

I wasn't aware I had to get my solicitor to write to them with a formal offer - is that normal procedure or just so this EA has confirmation I can afford it? The FA saying he needed to check with the EA whether my "offer check" was ok has made me wary of instructing a solicitor and paying out for searches in case there turns out to be some sort of problem.

No you don't have to make an offer via your solicitor.

99% of offers are made over the phone or in person I reckon.

In this instance though where it appears the ea is being obstructive then the formal offer may get them moving.

Actually what I would do is regardless of what they have told you, get your broker to ring and confirm the offer and that you have the finance in place. He will be able to gauge their response personally.
