Interest after paying off in full.

When I pay my Halifax credit card off in full they still charge me interest from the the time they sen't me the bill to the time I pay it even if I pay it straightaway. They said, " should I pay it off in full every month they will not charge me." Do other card companies charge in the same way.

  • Yes. It's only interest free if you pay in full every month.
  • You need to clear your card for 2 months running before any interest stops and that assumes you do not use it for cash or cash like transactions such as gambling etc.

As far as I know they all have the virtually the same rules. Halifax do not charge you if you pay in full - it is either a glitch, or as someone above posted, they haven't actually paid in full.

If you don't pay in full one month then there is not only the interest from that month, but interest from when the statement is generated until you pay it off. While it's a very little amount, it means that despite paying off the statement in full, you haven't paid off everything you owe - and won't do until you've paid your second consecutive statement in full.
  • I've had situations where interest hasn't been charged when it should have been. Trailing interest is often small - I've assumed that some cards simply write it off to save costs. (Cost of processing a payment + handling calls querying why it's there in the first place.)

They charge you interest if you didn't clear the preceding statement in full and then clear the next statement in full.

They charge you interest if you have cash transactions and clear the balance in full.

I pay my Halifax card in full every month and never pay interest. Are you sure you're not making transactions that are counted as cash? For instance topping up balances on gambling websites (eg. Poker stars) are counted as cash and incurr interest.

They only charge one time from your credit card, sometimes they charged more than the price of the item because they charged the exchange rate. If you buy something from other country.
