Want to move with mum-Please Advice

Hi I am not sure if I am posting in the right place. I want some advice in regards to moving in with my mum.I would like to move in with my mum who is a housing tenant and lives in a 1 bedroom flat. She is 67 and receives pension tax credit, her housing benefit and council tax is also paid by the council.
I am working full time and currently living out. I would like to move in with my mum as she is not very mobile and i help her with all her shopping, take her to all the GP/hospital appointments and do her cleaning every weekend.
If I do move in with her will it affect any of her benefits? Also will she need me to put as a second tenant or a non dependent person? Will i have to pay towards council tax and make a contribution towards rent? Is there anything else she/I need to consider? Will council allow me to move in with her even though she lives in a 1 bedroom flat?
Sorry for going on and on but i am putting whatever is coming to my mind. Thank you very much in advance.

Does your mum receive DLA?
If she does there will not be a non-dependent deduction in her housing benefit, if not there will be details on your councils website on how much her housing will be reduced by based on your income0 -
Thank you for your reply Caz3121.
I am asuming that DLA is disability living allowance? I am not sure if she does. Shall I just go on local council's website and check how much her housing benefit be reduced by? Also will I be making up/paying for whatever reductions council make? Will it be just the housing benefit or council tax too?Sorry I don't know much about these things hence the queations.
Thank you0 -

If she is a social housing tenant (i.e. council or housing association tenant) then she will need permission from the social housing landlord. She may have a tenancy handbook or there may be information on her obligations and the rules on the council website about taking in a lodger/sub tenant and if she can do this if she doesn't have a spare room. If she is a private housing tenant, she should consult her tenancy agreement or speak to the landlord.
You will be classed as a non-dependent and if you do move in, she will lose the 25% single persons allowance with her council tax, plus get a modest non-dependent deduction in her council tax and housing benefit unless she falls within the exempt categories. It is expected that the drop in benefits experienced by the tenant is covered by the new occupier.
See the local council website to find the table that explains what the deductions will be, based on your income or whether she has an exempt status.0 -

This would be the first thing to sort out. You may not be allowed to share a 1 bedroom flat.0 -
If she receives Guarantee Credit of Pension Credit then she will be entitled to an 'easement' where you income is disregarded for 6 months - then after 6 months they will take a non dep deduction - unless you move out on week 25 and move back in a week later then the 6 months disregard starts all over again
.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies.
That is a good point Mojisola, I will check with the council If i can move in with her.
Housing Benefit Officer my mums weekly payment is made up of State pension and pension credit. I think the good thing will be to check with the local council and just get an estimate(not sure if this is the right word) of what I will have to pay towards the council tax and rent etc after the 6 months are up (if my mum is entitle to 6 months easement)
I have been looking on council's website but can't find the relevant information. Is there anything else I should look into?
Many Thanks everyone.0 -
Is the property specifically for pensioners? Many Councils won't allow non pensioners to reside in sheltered/pensioner accommodation. They might also not allow it due to statutory overcrowding legislation and the tenancy might state it is a property for a couple or single individual only. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0

Thank you Hosuing Benefit Officer. No it's a 1 bedroom flat through a housing association. I think we should get her tenancy terms and conditions out and read them before making any contact with the council to make enquiries.0
